LCB
an  AMERICAN COUNCIL OF THE BLIND  state affiliate organization
Louisiana Council of the Blind had a Board Meeting Saturday August 20, 2011. Present at the meeting were the LCB Board, Guest and interested participants. LCB Board Meetings are open to the public.

The 2011 National Convention in Reno, Nevada was discussed and rated a complete success. Everyone should plan to attend the 2012 National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky on July 8-14 2012. Any LCB member that attends the 2012 National Convention and stays 6 nights will receive a $600.00 stipend.

The 2011 State Convention in New Orleans was discussed and rated a success. The 2012 LCB State Convention will be in August in Baton Rouge, LA. Please plan to attend for the information and new ideas that are offered from various speakers, administrators, as well as vendors. Besides the educational value of the convention there are the good times to be had by all.

The LCB Bylaws were reviewed line by line. There were some changes discussed by the LCB Board. The changes will be voted on at the convention. A copy of the LCB Bylaws can be obtained by contacting the LCB office in Marrero, LA at 504-348-0003.
LCB will support the Annual RSVL Christmas Party for Handicapped Kids. The party is December 10, 2011. Please plan to attend and offer support for this endeavor. See attached invitation.

LCB and RSVL are having an adult Christmas Party the night of December 10, 2011. More details will be released when confirmed.

Leola Campbell, President of LCB, discussed the need for more LCB Members. The Board implemented a contest of sorts to find new members. The LCB Member that brings in most new active members to LCB will be rewarded with a prize and recognition. The exact rules and prize are still in discussion. Information will be released when confirmed. Look at this as an advanced notice so you can locate new LCB Members.

LCB is providing gifts to Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired students. Again this year lCB has made a donation to the White Cane Day in Baton Rouge, LA. White Cane Day is October 12, 2011. This is becoming an annual event to educate the general public on Blind Travel.

The Service Award for inside LCB will be known as the Vernon Daigle Award. This is in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to LCB. LCB has a new phone number. The new number is 504-348-0003. The address remains the same, 940 Pare Helene Drive, Marrero, LA. 70072.

The Greater New Orleans Council of the Blind had an organizational meeting after the LCB meeting. Members from the Greater New Orleans Area held elections and adopted a constitution and Bylaws. The officers elected were  

President- Sedonia Doty

Vice President- Clattie Gibbs

Secretary- Kim Venable

Treasurer- Terry Camardelle

Board Member- Jimmy Grimes

Board Member- Joetta Butler

Board Member - Danny Matte


The last GNOCB Bylaws from May 20, 1995 were read and discussed. The bylaws were revised. The Secretary of GNOCB, Kim Venable, is presently working with the CPA to get GNOCB certified with the IRS
as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. No GNOCB member will have to pay dues till January 1, 2012.
